No messing about: WBA can’t afford another slip with Championship rivals capitulating – Opinion

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and for football fans all over Britain, it truly is as Boxing Day is often seen as one of the best days of the year.

With 99% of teams in the Football League competing tomorrow, there is a storyline for everyone to follow on this great English tradition, and for West Brom in particular, it is setting up to be another massive day in the Championship season.

The Baggies make the trip to Oakwell in a game where a win is essential for Slaven Bilic’s side, with West Brom currently three points ahead of Leeds United in the league table on a day where the Lilywhites travel away to play-off hopefuls Preston North End, and the title chase in the Championship could be defined by what happens tomorrow afternoon.

Will West Brom be top of the Championship going into 2020?

Yes, we have the form to win every game

No, the festive period is just too hectic

With Leeds showing signs of being, well, Leeds, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side picked up one point from six in their past two games despite being in promising positions for both fixtures, West Brom can make the top spot in the Championship their own by distancing themselves from the Yorkshire-based side, and Boxing Day results could provide just that.

The Albion have been the top side in the division this season, scoring the most goals and losing the fewest games this campaign as the league table shows, and with Bilic’s men making the trip to Barnsley, who currently sit 22nd in the standings, the odds are in West Brom’s favour.

The Championship title race is likely going to be an ongoing tale for the rest of the season, but a West Brom win tomorrow will be a big step in the right direction to the Baggies, and one that could put more pressure on Leeds to slip up again in the division.
