James Morrison has been ruled out of the Newcastle game but Roy Hodgson is hopeful he will return for the Boxing Day match.

The hamstring issue that saw his late substitution against Blackburn last weekend is bad enough to keep him out of the game, but in better news Mulumbu and Scharner have both managed to shake off their knocks.

Somen Tchoyi will also miss the match following the birth of his child, but he is expected to back for the Boxing Day match against City aswell.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said of Morrison.

‘James has a slight hamstring problem but we’re hopeful it will clear up before the weekend. Unfortunately with the game coming so close, it wasn’t enough time. But I’m hoping he’ll be fit for Monday.’
