James Morrison has said he was playing through the pain barrier when he made his return to the first team with a bang against Bolton.

Speaking to wba.co.uk after his dream return to the first team, Morrison said.

‘It’s been a bit of a frustrating time, the lads have been doing well since I’ve been injured and I’ve just wanted to be a part of it. Yesterday was the time to come on and make an impact and that’s what I did – I was delighted to get on the scoresheet.’

As for his injury he said he was meant to come back into the fold last week but it wasn’t right for him to do so, and even though the Bolton game was still a bit early, he was just desperate to get back out on the pitch so the pain was secondary.

‘It just hurts when I try and kick the ball with my left foot, but I don’t do that anyway!’

As for the departing Hodgson he added.

‘It would have been nice to get a win because Roy has been great for us all season. We appreciate all the work he’s done, so we want to send him off on a high.’
