Roy Hodgson has called on Abdoulaye Meite to prove his worth to the Baggies and win himself a contract extension before the end of the season.

Meite’s 3 year deal runs out in the summer but the Baggies have an option on an additional year should they wish, and this is the extension that Hodgson has called on Meite to secure.

He hasn’t started badly since the new gaffer took charge, playing in the last two matches and being impressive with Olsson in the middle of our defence, but it’s that kind of form Hodgson wants him to repeat game in game out as we enter the final few games of the season because a slip up could see Tamas or Ibanez earn their shot in his place.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson said:

‘There is a great opportunity for him to try and earn a stay here next season, he has to play well enough to keep himself in the team firstly, but if he can do as well as he has done alongside Olsson, there is no reason why one would be looking to break that up.’

Meite has a great opportunity to impress against Arsenal, up his game against the title contenders and that will be a huge tick on Hodgson’s notepad.
