Head coach Darren Moore kicked off the Championship campaign of 2018/19 as West Bromwich Albion hosted Bolton Wanderers at The Hawthorns earlier this afternoon.

After the disappointment of relegation from the Premier League last season, Moore did give the fans something to shout about and optimism was high this year that he would be the man to lead us back to the top-flight at the first time of asking and fans also got to see three new debutants given our summer strengthening as Sam Johnstone, Kyle Bartley and Harvey Barnes took to the pitch.

The disappointment, of course, was in not seeing Craig Dawson or, more especially, Salomon Rondon make the starting eleven as that will only boost talk of departures.

It wasn’t a great day for West Brom though as we suffered a 2-1 defeat on the day and although there were some positives, there were also plenty of negatives to temper the optimism when it comes to a shot at promotion at the first time of asking.

It’s only the opening day though and there’s plenty of football ahead.
