With West Bromwich Albion’s new head coach, Slaven Bilic, in place at The Hawthorns and his backroom boys having joined him, the clubs’ full focus has to be on strengthening the first team group and we’ve now been linked with West Ham United’s Reece Oxford.
Regardless of what is happening on a financial front, the aim in the Championship campaign of 2019/20 will be to go one step further than last year and that means at least securing another Play-Off spot, and we all know we need to strengthen.
There has been some speculation so far this summer, but the vast majority of that has focused on potential outgoings, with few names linked in – that changed with the appointment of Bilic as you’d expect – and although it comes from the Daily Star, it certainly seems that links to Oxford have excited some fans on social media, however, others are understandably less than impressed.
The Star claim that the 20-year-old defender is set to make the move for a reported £4million after a second deal with Augsburg fell down (he was on loan with them in the second half of last season).
His game time isn’t great with only 25 senior starts under his belt, but at his age, there’s plenty of developing left to do.
There are no great details in the report though and then even link in Salomon Rondon as being an option for them, so like normal during the transfer window we’ll simply have to see if anything comes of it.
I know he’s been highly rated but his stats would suggest otherwise, Bilic knows him though so we have to trust his judgement.
Some decent transfer gossip not Reece Oxford related would be nice #wba

I can’t recall seeing him play. Only read mainly negative reports. What are his strengths & weaknesses?

No to Oxford. Haven't read one favourable report from anyone who has watched him play over the last couple of years. Carroll…sadly always injured. Astronomical wages too. Good player when fit though

Maybe Bilic is the guy who gets Oxford playing how he should. He is the one who gave him his first start after all.

I’d take Jagielka as a replacement. Negates the need to resign Barry and Mozza as he will bring experience. We also need a RB (or 2) and 3/4 midfielders and 2 strikers. Could be another Alan Irvine trolley dash scenario and that didn’t go to well.

I’ve personally heard decent reviews of Oxford’s playing ability – surely always a good sign when loan club is trying to buy perm – no? But have heard he is a typical Rav Morrison / Saido – much too soon, terrible attitude and upset WHam owners early on and has never recovered

Jenkinson and oxford linked look like good signings. Can’t speak of the midfielder linked as don’t know him. Carroll would be a no. Would rather have Gayle

Love it! Sign Oxford (good signing) to replace Dawson (must be getting money from Dawson) but won't splash out to get Gayle who proved last year he can get 20+ goals a season. Bizarre!

good young player

And Bilic has worked with home before so am happy with this. Good move to get player on before selling Dawson
