Long Odds For Monday

Shane Long has a troublesome hamstring issue following the Newcastle game, and it’s looking unlikely that he’ll figure against Southampton.

Giovanni Trapattoni has been forced to leave him out of the Republic squad for their upcoming friendly, and he told reporters.

‘Yesterday he answered me. We also received an update from Albion. He has a knock under the knee. He has to see a scan again, I don’t know. The club doesn’t think he’ll be ready, I would be surprised if he plays.’

Blow for Shane if he is out, but as ever it’ll give somebody else an opportunity.
