Joleon Lescott has said that Albion’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday was the perfect way for him to cap his competitive debut for the club.

James Morrison is rightly taking the headlines for is winning goal, but the former England centre half put in a Man of the Match winning performance to help us to our first three points of the season and speaking to wba.co.uk after the game he explained that for him it was the perfect way to have drawn a line under a ‘very frustrating’ start to life at The Hawthorns.

‘I’ve been itching to play and it came. Before the game it was probably one of the most excited I’ve been before any game. It was nice to play and perform like that, the way we did as a team, and then obviously to get the result was extra special.’

Lescott goes on to say that with how Albion have started the season, especially after the campaign we endured last year, it was a ‘massive result’ for us as it was always going to be a difficult away fixture so the plan was to keep it as tight as we possibly could, look to frustrate them and then hit them on the break and thankfully for us that was effectively what we did.

‘First half we were pleased to go in at 0-0 and we knew we had to concentrate equally as much in the second half, then, if you’ve got people putting in quality like Chris Brunt then you’ve just got to get on the end of it.’

Interesting pick out of Brunty there given the criticism he’s come in for of late.
