Defender and summer signing Joleon Lescott made his return to the pitch in a behind closed doors friendly against Hull, and the 32 year old played for the whole 90 minutes as he continued his return from injury and his search for fitness.

The former England international has been dogged by knee problems since signing for us as a free agent following his release by Manchester City, and having spent last week in America in a mini pre season set up with fitness specialists, he has returned to us in good shape and came through the game without any noticeable problems.

Unless there are any unforeseen problems that raise their head over the coming days, Lescott could be in line to face Everton this weekend.

Speaking to wba.co.uk head coach Alan Irvine said of the game and Lescott’s performance.

‘Joleon played the 90 minutes and played well, he looked good. Now we will see how he feels but it was very encouraging. It’s really important we don’t rush him because that could lead to a set back, he’s got to be right before we consider him for a first team game but I’m sure he would love to play at the weekend.’

Fellow new signings Cristian Gamboa and Sebastian Blanco also got an 80 and 90 minutes run out themselves so they will have stepped up their fitness work nicely in the game as well.
