“It Can’t Be A Fluke” – But Bilic Continues To Look For A More “Ruthless” West Brom

|

Having slipped up in the midweek clash against Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion head coach Slaven Bilic was looking to see his side get back to winning ways this weekend as we welcomed Cardiff City to The Hawthorns.

Matheus Pereira continued to impress the fans as he opened the scoring 20 minutes in, and Grady Diangana added a second late on to send us into the break with a 2-0 advantage. Second half, Charlie Austin added a third, but Cardiff better responded at that stage and hit back with a quick brace from substitute Danny Ward.

A more nervy end to the game was calmed as Romaine Sawyers made it 4-2, three minutes into stoppage time to secure all three points and send us back to the top of the Championship table.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle, the gaffer said of our efforts on the day.

“A great game to watch – four goals and many chances. We are playing on the front foot; we are full of confidence. But we have to be more ruthless, more mature. We have to manage the game better. Credit to Cardiff, but we should have stopped their first goal, and with their first goal, it’s game on. The position could not be better. On the one hand, it’s early days, but on the other hand, it’s eleven games – it can’t be a fluke! But we have to stay humble and learn from the mistakes.”
