Is 30-Year-Old Really Set For “Shock” Return To West Brom

|

There was a strange transfer story concerning West Bromwich Albion this week – it was claimed that head coach Darren Moore was going to give a second shot to former player Giles Barnes.

Whatever the relative merits of this story, and I am mindful of the fact it comes from the Sun, it’s certainly a very left-field suggestion but we have apparently already welcomed the 30-year-old into the club for training and Moore has been casting his eye over him, before deciding whether or not to add him as a free agent.

The Jamaican international was most recently with MLS side Colorado Rapids and he’s spent a few years in the US game, and those with long memories will remember an ill-fated spell at The Hawthorns back in the 2010/11 season where he failed to find the back of the net in seven starts and 21 substitute showings.

Having been incredibly highly rated as a youngster, he just seemed to fall off the map – at least to my knowledge – so I’m really not sure of what to make of this one, even as a freebie.

The E&S coverage makes more sense as although they confirm he’s training with us, they state we’re just doing a favour for him as he looks to keep his fitness up and that we aren’t entertaining a deal.
