Head coach Alan Irvine has said that he wants to bring excitement and a cup run to The Hawthorns ahead of the game against Hull City tonight.

Steve Bruce’s boys makes the trip this evening for the Capital One Cup third round encounter and speaking to wba.co.uk Irvine gives nothing away about his potential team selection but does say that whatever side he chooses will be chosen with the expectation of giving a good game and taking the victory.

‘I was fortunate enough to play in the final of the League Cup in 1984 and that was a brilliant occasion. I’ve always thought it was an important competition and I’m certainly not going to change my view about it. I would love to give the fans a really good cup run. It’s an important competition, I have never seen fans of any club being disappointed to go to Wembley and play in a cup final, it would be brilliant if we could go and do that.’

As for potential team selections the gaffer admits he does have a number of options at hand for tonight and he knows it is also an opportunity to give playing time to those who haven’t had much of that so far this campaign.

‘First of all I want to win the game, I have got to consider a whole load of things. Secondly I want to treat the competition the right way. Thirdly I have then got to get the balance building building on the Spurs performance and result and getting playing time into some, there is a lot of thinking to be done.’

Irvine goes on to say that we will go into the game very high on confidence but also knowing that it will be a tough game nontheless, and whatever changes his opposite number makes, he equally has a good squad to choose from so it will still be tough for us.
