With West Bromwich Albion looking towards a busier deadline day as new head coach Slaven Bilic continues bolstering his first team group as we hope we can go one better than last season and gain promotion back to the Premier League, we have now been linked with a raid on Aston Villa for their out of favour striker Scott Hogan.

The Republic of Ireland international has had a woeful time at Villa Park following his big money arrival from Brentford in the January 2017 transfer window, and he’s only found the back of the net ten times for them since then and clearly finds himself out of favour under his former gaffer, Dean Smith.

Football Insider claimed this week that we were in pole position for his capture, but that Stoke City and Bristol City were also interested in him, and these fans couldn’t think of a worse deal to go through from our point of view.

  • Isn’t this the guy that missed training because “his gates wouldn’t open”??
I’m thinking Berahino levels of commitment – no thank you.
Anybody – and indeed nobody – is better than this joke.

    • Nope, that was McCormack I think – apart from not replicating his Brentford scoring form, I don’t believe he’s been a problem. But like Charlie Austin links, IF he can find some form he’d be an asset, if he can’t it’s a pointless signing.

      • Austin?? Absolutely not.
Expensive, way past his best and an appalling injury history.
        Overweight and over the hill.
And, mercifully – the ONLY good point about him – he didn’t want to come.

In other words far too happy picking up the wedge at the end of his career for doing nowt.

        Avoid at ALL costs.

        • Agree with you there, too long out of form and injury prone now – but I can’t help wonder with a bit of love if he could get his conversion rate back. Given the stories of the blow up at Southampton when he was told he wouldn’t feature in pre-season, I’m not sure whether to take that as a sign he’s entitled or still has the fight? I just don’t see Zohore giving us the same given what we’ve lost.

  • Any “goal scorer” that has stopped scoring is, by definition, no longer a “goal scorer” – that’s why they are nit getting games.
Berahino is the classic text book case – we did BRILLIANTLY to get £12M for him.
Stoke thought they could get him back….was 49 games without a goal?
The lack of goals is a symptom – not the ailment.
Attitude. Look at Lukaku now – he’s twice the size and half the player. Too much good life and not enough hard work.

    • Problem with Bera is we could’ve had a lot more had Peace not got stroppy. Not sure on the games but it was a bloody long time lol Hogan was reasonable at Sheff U last year though given his game time, I think there’s still something there with him. But the Villa connection does it for most fans.

  • Hogan isn’t that bad a good work rate and Austin up top wit him b pretty descent wat more do ye want Yere west brom not ASTON VILLA UP D VILLA
