Roy Hodgson has a selection headache ahead of Chelsea as he has to decide on whether to include Chris Brunt after a 9 week absense, even if Thomas isn’t declared fit.

Speaking to wba.co.uk ahead of this weekend’s clash, Hodgson said Thomas was still struggling with his hamstring problem so it’s too early to announce whether he is in contention for the squad, but also with Brunt returning to full training he has to decide whether to introduce him slowly, or put him straight back in.

‘Jerome Thomas has a slight hamstring injury but nothing too serious. He’s making a good recovery and we will see how things are when the other lads have returned from international duty. Chris Brunt has trained since last Thursday, it’s too early to tell whether Chris will be ready. Technically he’s fit, it’s down to match fitness – will he have the energy and stamina – that’s the question we need to ask if Thomas doesn’t make it.’

In other injury news Scharner trained with the team yesterday and is progressing well, but they are being careful on any contact issues in training and Billy Jones is definitely ruled out with his hamstring problem.
