Roy Hodgson has revealed that he has faith that Keith Downing and Dean Kiely will step up to the plate following the departure of Michael Appleton.

Speaking to wba.co.uk the gaffer said he believed that given their current involvement, he feels they are more than capable of taking on a little bit extra to make up for Appleton’s departure.

‘We’re happy with the backroom staff, we’re not desperate or rushing to bring anyone else in. We’re not looking to bring someone in between Keith and Dean – Michael has the title of assistant head coach but the four of us have worked pretty closely together.’

Hodgson adds that in the longer term he will be looking to bring in somebody else, not necessarily with the assistant head coach title, but another body to ensure we are covered properly for training, and experience and somebody who will gel with the coaching staff we have already.
