Roy Hodgson has said he would entertain taking the England managers cursed hotseat if he had media and public backing.
I wouldn’t touch it with somebody elses bargepole if the truth be told.
Speaking to the Guardian Hodgson said.
‘I would rather hope that, if I was ever going to be offered the England job, it would be with the backing of the important people. That would be the media and the fans.’
It’s a sensible point Hodgson makes, although you have to wonder why anybody would want the England job given the media in this country, as of course he can call on his time at Liverpool.
‘It’s very difficult for anyone even if you’ve got the competence and you are the ‘right person’, you need to be perceived as the right person. And the perception of my Liverpool appointment was not right, and you end up paying for it.’
Roy, England fans and the media as a whole are far more fickle than fans in general at club level. We all get sucked into it. I’m not alone. There’s many a manager and player who pays for the honour of representing their country.
Stick with us, and ignore the idiots at England level.
