Roy Hodgson was pretty pleased with what he saw in the friendly against San Jose Earthquakes, despite the freak goal and Myhill’s blunder that led to our defeat.

Speaking to the E&S following the game, Hodgson defended Myhill over the error and said he was pleased with the effort of the players.

‘The game was very useful, we lost it to a freak goal in the third minute. The goalkeeper’s kick out had the most ludicrous bounce I have seen in a long while. But the players did well to recover from that and approaching half time we were looking quite good. I was pleased with the shape and the way we played, the result is disappointing but, after one week of training, the result was the least important thing on my mind.’

It was certainly a freak of a goal, but part of me wishes you saw them slightly more often than you do these days!
