Roy Hodgson has said that he is two or three players away from being completely happy with the squad for his first full season in charge.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Hodgson explained that he wanted quality not quantity for next season, because he already believes the players at his disposal are more than good enough to reach our aims for the campaign.

‘I would rather we wait and get the right people than keep adding numbers, I would say we are two, or a maximum of three, players away from having the squad I’d like.’

Obviously one of those players would be a goalkeeper and you’d guess another known scoring quantity upfront to take the pressure off Odemwingie and to take the pressure of Cox so he can continue to develop. Who or what Hodgson has in mind for his possible 3rd choice probably depends on your own assessments of the players we have.

Roy also says that ‘hopefully’ Zoltan Gera will be joining us.
