“He’ll Be In Contention” – Massive Boost For West Brom Ahead Of Preston

|

West Bromwich Albion caretaker head coach Jimmy Shan has received a massive boost as he looks to put back to back defeats behind him this weekend as we face Preston North End – Matty Phillips is back in training.

The 28-year-old has 24 starting appearances to his name in the campaign of 2018/19, with two further showings from the bench and in that time he’s contributed five goals and seven assists. We haven’t seen him properly since February though, as he only got a solitary appearance in March before again going down with injury after the Ipswich Town game. It’s actually only four games in total since the turn of the year.

I don’t need to say how much his attacking intent has been a miss, especially for former gaffer Darren Moore and as long as he can keep himself fit, he could play a massive for Shan in getting us back to winning ways.

Speaking to wba.co.uk our current gaffer explained on an injury front.

“We’re looking quite good. Matty didn’t travel with the team on Tuesday but stayed behind and trained with a small group that wasn’t involved in our matchday squad, mixed in with some under-23s. He’ll train today (Thursday) and tomorrow and be in contention. Obviously Kieran got on the pitch and we got a good 20/25 minutes out of him, which is valuable for him moving forward.”

He confirmed that Gareth Barry had picked up a sickness bug and James Morrison was now back out on the grass, but he wasn’t expected to return properly until next week.
