There comes a time in any successful season when a lightning bolt hit supporters and they start believing that something incredible is afoot, and for West Brom supporters in 2002, that was even against Crewe Alexandra.

This week, 18 years ago saw Gary Megson’s side claim a resounding 4-1 win over the now-League Two side, as West Brom went on an absolute tear in their final 10 games of the Championship season to clinch a surprise promotion back to the Premier League for their first time in over 15 years.

And few West Brom supporters on social media believed that the thumping against Crewe with five games remaining in the season was the moment they knew promotion could be on the cards that year.
