West Bromwich Albion welcomed Leeds United to The Hawthorns on Saturday for our final Championship clash ahead of yet another international break.
With a number of fans feeling uneasy ahead of the game given our recent form and results, the match proved to be exactly what we needed and we got back to our best in all areas across the pitch. Goals from Hal Robson-Kanu, Matt Phillips, Harvey Barnes and Dwight Gayle secured us a 4-1 win, but there were also defensive improvements.
One of those was clearly the performance of Ahmed Hegazi and although he’s taken plenty of stick so far this season, the 27-year-old deserves his praise after this showing – and the following fans on social media were pleased to be able to give it.
Ahmed Hegazi, different gravy. The Egyptian Maldini

Brilliant performance tonight! Really enjoyed it, great atmosphere and everyone was on form, won second balls, pressed high up the pitch and didn’t overplay at the back! HRK was superb but MOM was Hegazi for me. #wba

Best atmosphere I’ve seen at the Hawthorns in a long time! Credit to Robson-Kanu he was impressive all night & credit to Hegazi, been a big critic in the past but he was fantastic tonight ???????? Great win, exciting going forward, still would have loved a clean sheet @WBA #baggies

With no wins in four and three losses on the spin, if there was a real disappointment, it was in not keeping the clean sheet but plenty will be hoping our dip is now over after that one.
