Simon Cox was delighted to take Goal of the Season at the recent Award’s dinner, but he was even more delighted because that goal gave him his Premiership foundation and something to build upon.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Cox said that the goal against Spurs, which also apparently won MotD’s Goal of the Month award, laid the foundation for his impressive end to the season as it gave him all the confidence and proof that he needed that he could more than cut it in this league.

‘It was a very proud moment for me, it was one of those strikes that came naturally. It was a great way to start my birthday weekend in London. The goal is probably why I’m still in the team, and I’m very happy to be in the team.’

I’m definitely interested to see how he develops next season, as if he can become the player I’m sure most of us think he’s capable of becoming, we could have a real gem on our hands.
