George Thorne relished last night’s full Premiership debut for the club and he’s now hoping he can get an extended run in the team to show what he’s capable of.

The young midfielder turned 19 today, and was delighted to make his proper bow last night against Spurs, even if the result was disappointing, and he’s hoping he did enough to retain his place for our FA third round clash against Cardiff this weekend.

Speaking to wba.co.uk after the game, he said.

‘I feel happy to have played but there’s a dampener on it to not come away with a point. We pushed them right to the limit, so it’s something we can take away as a positive.’

Hodgson played his cards close to his chest with the team selection as Thorne says he had no idea he would be starting until the team was officially announced.

‘I found out I was playing literally just when the team was announced. But being a professional footballer that’s how we need to be every day. To test myself against them is only good for me. I’ll be ready again if the gaffer needs me.’
