Michael Appleton has said that George Thorne’s performance last night in the Southampton friendly is exactly why Roy has started to take notice of him.

Speaking to wba.co.uk the assistant coach said that particularly, the vision the youngster showed, when setting up Simon Cox’s second goal is exactly why Roy Hodgson has brought him more into the first team during our pre season so far.

The 18 year old played all 90 minutes alongside Graham Dorrans in the centre of midfield last night, and Appleton believes the player can only get better with age and experience.

‘He did well, he was one of the lads that did ever so well towards the end of last season. It was a great pass for Coxy’s goal and that’s the kind of vision he’s got. He’s only going to get better and better.’
