Head coach Tony Pulis has today appointed Ben Garner to our first team coaching staff.

The 35 year old rejoins Pulis after they spent time working together at Crystal Palace, he spent November 2013 to the following August with him at Selhurst Park.

Garner joins with good experience for his age and also a wide ranging remit in his new job.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following his appointment, Garner said the responsibilities offered to him made it an exciting opportunity for him.

‘I`ll be coaching the first team as well as taking a hands-on role in analysis and also recruitment. Tony was great to work with at Palace from the moment he came in and I spent that season working for him. I got my head down and got on with the job and Tony must have liked what I brought to the role. He is a very straight guy, an experienced manager with very strong principles.’

Garner is a former Palace player, but his time with them was cut short with a serious injury at 19 year’s old and following a brief spell with non league Sutton, he made the move into coaching aged 24.

Coming through the Academy pyramid quite quickly at Palace, Ian Holloway promoted him to first team duties and that was where he has since stayed.

‘My aims? In the short-term I want to do whatever I can to help the team to improve and push up the table. In the longer-term I want to help the club grow as a Premier League force.’
