With a rejected transfer request and two bids dismissed from Tottenham Hotspur, coach Gerry Francis has given his thoughts on the Saido Berahino issue.

In quotes carried by Sky Sports Francis admitted that the ongoing saga, with the window not yet shut, was frustrating for everybody at the club but it’s not unique and you just have to deal with it.

With Saido missing out on Chelsea and Port Vale, he also confirmed that he could come back into contention before the deadline window if head coach Tony Pulis believed his head was right to play.

‘It’s unsettling, it’s not something that’s unique – lots of clubs have situations like this but it is unsettling when our star striker hasn’t played for the last two games. He’s a great young talent and he’s very important for us, so it would be great to see him playing. There’s things going on in the young man’s head at the moment and Tony doesn’t feel as though he’s been in the right frame of mind but that’s not to say he won’t be playing at the weekend.’

Francis went on to say that players are generally used to things going on, but it’s a learning curve when it comes to being mentally right for matches and not letting speculation distract you when it comes to match day preparation, so he’s hoping that one way or another it is settled in the next few days so what will be will be and we can continue our work.

Should Berahino leave, he also admitted it would now be a rush and a concern to replace him, but many would feel between Rickie Lambert and Salomon Rondon we’ve already hedged our bets on that particular score.

‘It is a concern. We do need to bring a few more people in before the deadline. If Saido’s going to be here that’s great, if not then obviously we’ll need to be looking to a replacement. Making that all work out just how you want it is difficult sometimes. He’s our player and he’s had a little period with this situation now. I think Tony’s given him a period for getting his mind cleared but you don’t know what’s going to happen from day to day. Certainly he’s our player and he’s available.’
