Four Goals & A Third West Brom Signing Made It A Good Weekend

|

It was a busy weekend in West Bromwich Albion world and not only did the club announce the capture of former Rotherham United star Semi Ajayi, head coach Slaven Bilic also picked up his first victory as we took a comfortable pre-season win over Scunthorpe United.

25-year-old Ajayi comes in as our third capture of the summer and although the deal is officially undisclosed, the Express & Star report that it’s an initial £1.5million fee, rising to £2million.

Capable of playing in defence or the defensive midfield role, he made 49 appearances for Rotherham last season, contributing eight goals along the way, and if he settles, at that price he could well prove to be a bargain.

The 6ft 5in player has signed a four-year deal at The Hawthorns and he’s taken the No 6 shirt for the coming campaign.

“It’s a great opportunity for me. I want to play at the highest level and I have joined a club with the ambition to get there. I want to play my part in helping the team get promoted because that is definitely the target.”

It was a quick introduction for Ajayi as he made his non-competitive debut against Scunthorpe at Glanford Park, and with Matty Phillips bagging a brace on the day and further goals from Filip Krovinovic and Hal Robson-Kanu, everyone will be hoping this is now a turning point when it comes to some optimism.

ALBION: Johnstone, Ferguson (Wilson 85), Bartley (Ajayi 60), O’Shea (Fitzwater 85), Townsend © (Melbourne 85), Livermore (Harper 60), Field (Brunt 60), Phillips (Zohore 60), Krovinovic (Robson-Kanu 60), Edwards (Tulloch 70), Burke (Leko 60).
