Ben Foster has praised ‘homework’ and a bit of luck for his penalty save against Stoke City.

Speaking to wba.co.uk the goalkeeper explained that he had done his homework on how Stoke players take spot kicks, but he also said he appreciates that Walters’ penalty wasn’t the best and the player was probably disappointed with how he took it.

Prior to the game Foster had worked with Dean Kiely to study their penalty form, so he knew which was he was going to dive as soon as Walters stepped up.

‘It was the sort of save where if you go the right way you expect to make the save. I think he’ll admit that it wasn’t one of his best penalties, I went the right way and I think most other goalkeepers would have saved it. We have done some homework and Dean showed me all the penalties, I always knew if Jonathan stepped up I was going to dive that way.’
