Skipper Darren Fletcher has said that Albion’s performance against Everton on Monday was simply not good enough and we have to bounce back against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail as we head into this weekend’s fixture looking for a return to winning ways, Fletcher said the Everton showing was ‘unacceptable’ for a home performance and we needed to do a hell of a lot better than that in future.

‘There’s always games to bounce back and our away form has been good, so let`s go and try to continue that. We had a good win at Crystal Palace last season. It’s the Premier League, you’ve got to brush off disappointment. As I said at the beginning of the season, it’s important to stay at a level keel throughout – when you get good results don’t get too carried away and if you have bad results don’t get too low. Confidence is important so we’ll keep level-headed and pick ourselves up quickly and prepare for Palace.’

With Fletcher being named in the Scotland squad alongside James Morrison for the European Championship qualifiers against Poland and Gibraltar, that won’t prove to be a distraction for the 68 time capped player and he admits the players had a very frank and open conversation after our last defeat.

‘Things are always said when you lose games and that’s important, you’ve got to realise these things can’t happen and it’s not acceptable. It shouldn’t happen and if you just let games like this pass by then people think it’s taken lightly and it’s not taken lightly. So things are said, it stays in the dressing room, and we try to make each other better and realise this cannot happen at this level. We work very hard on our defence, we pride ourselves on clean sheets, and to lose three goals after being two-nil up is not like us. We’ve got to look at ourselves, everyone, the whole team, and take responsibility for that defeat.’
