With interim head coach Jimmy Shan being handed the opportunity to complete West Bromwich Albion’s hopeful return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, he’s certainly taking his opportunity with the results he’s picked up and we now have two familiar faces on his backroom coaching staff.

Having brought Steven Reid back the other week to bolster the coaching setup, earlier this morning the club also confirmed that Michael Appleton had also returned on a deal until the end of the current campaign.

Appleton’s experience now speaks for itself as given his previous roles with us, he’s now got decent managerial and assistant manager experience from spells with Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn, Oxford and most recently Leicester City.

Quoted by Sky Sports, Shan said of his return.

“To bring somebody in who has the wealth of experience Michael has can only be a huge aid to us. We’ve currently got three grass-based coaches in myself Jamie (Smith) and Steven (Reid). Appy is also a fantastic grass coach and he can come out and aid us in that aspect, but I think we can also tap into his wealth of experience, somebody who can come in and maybe look at the game with an emotional attachment, from a different lens. He can offer us something different.”
