“Every one of them surprised me”: Slaven Bilic makes West Brom player admission

|

Slaven Bilic has praised his West Brom players for the way they have trained away from home as he welcomed them back to training today.

As we all know, there has been no football in this country since mid-March, so players have been forced to work from home as they look to stay in shape for the campaign resuming. Whilst there’s still no concrete date on when that will be, steps have been taken and the Championship players were back with their clubs today, with the hope of restarting next month.

That gave Bilic a chance to assess his players close up, although the staff have been monitoring the group over the past months. And, the Croatian boss told the Express & Star that he is pleased with the professionalism that the squad have displayed in their time away from the training ground.

They have been great – we expected that to be fair, that is why we gave them those kinds of programmes. But every one of one them surprised me to be fair in a positive way.

I knew they had a big motivation and they were going to be very professional and good. But they have not been good they have been exceptional. They have been superb.”

Will West Brom be in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

As Bilic touches on, the motivation for the players is clear, with Albion currently second in the Championship and on course to win promotion back to the Premier League. The Baggies hold a six-point lead over third-placed Fulham with just nine games to play, although they are due to face the Cottagers before the season concludes.

If the campaign isn’t finished, the EFL have recommended that points per game is used – meaning West Brom would go up as it stands.
