We’re not quite sure to what end, but Dean Kiely has been giving his backing to Scott Carson`s World Cup dream.

Kiely has signed a one-year extension to his player career until summer 2011, and has now been installed as the full-time keeper coach.

Although Scott Carson has his own doubts about his chances of making Fabio Capello`s squad, Kiely feels the first team keeper is more than capable of making South Africa.

“If people want to give me a phone call they will only get a glowing report from me because I think Scotty is an immense goalkeeper.’

Though we’re sure that Kiely means well, this sort of guff really doesn’t do anyone any good.

Least of all Carson.

As a keeper he still has plenty to work on in terms of positioning and from set pieces.

Let’s concentrate on getting back into the Premiership please, and leave the World Cup dream to those keepers in the top flight that Capello is already working with.
