Driving seat: WBA should be confident about title hopes following ‘very fair’ game – Opinion

|

It was built up as of the biggest games in the Championship this season, yet when the full-time whistle blew, a winner between West Brom and Leeds United was yet to be decided.

The two juggernauts in England’s second division this season played out to an entertaining 1-1 draw that saw Baggies defender Semi Ajayi score at both ends of the pitch in a game that Slaven Bilic believed ended fairly, with the West Brom manager saying via The Birmingham Mail: “(It was a) fair result. Very fair. Both teams had chances. We had more chances, but if we count, they had more possession, we had more shots, more chances. Very fair.”

Will Slaven Bilic guide us back to the Premier League?

Yes

No

Indeed, West Brom should have their confidence regained after claiming a point against Leeds, and whilst the Baggies remain off top stop in the division by goal difference alone as the Championship table shows, the Albion must be having a feeling that they are in the driving seat for the league title.

The Baggies remain behind Leeds for now in the table, but as we have seen over the past few weeks, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have shown signs of creaking and falling apart, with the Whites dropping points against the likes of Cardiff City and Fulham as well as needing a miracle to claim a big win against Birmingham City in their final game of 2019.

And West Brom picking up a commendable result against Leeds will be a confidence booster to Bilic’s side as well as something that could play on the minds of the Yorkshire-based club, who in January could again show signs of slowing down, allowing the Baggies to swoop in and take control of the Championship title race.
