“Didn’t See Leeds For A Long Time” – Bilic’s Frustration Is Clear After West Brom Loss

|

Having quietly put ourselves into top spot in the Championship table with an unbeaten start to life at The Hawthorns for new head coach Slaven Bilic, Tuesday evening’s second tier fixture gave us a very difficult trip to Leeds United.

Recent results had gone against them and we caught them at the time where they had trouble scoring, but were vulnerable to set pieces – and we had to make it count.

The opening 45 minutes probably wasn’t a surprise as the hosts dominated and although they took the lead shortly before the halftime break, they’d only actually tested Sam Johnstone a couple of times more than we’d troubled their goalkeeper, but we were living somewhat dangerously.

We didn’t concede the second though, but unfortunately for us as the final whistle approached, we couldn’t find the leveller either, so a 1-0 defeat it was but the top of that table is tight.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle and the end of the game, Bilic said of our efforts on the night.

“I’m very disappointed with the result but I’m proud of how we played second half. We knew who we were playing and we talked about this as a big opportunity. They were more aggressive in the first half and scored a goal. But in the second I didn’t see Leeds for a long time. I think we definitely deserved one goal and I’m disappointed that we didn’t take any of these chances.”
