“Did Slav Forget” – Mixed Reactions From These West Brom Fans To Millwall Team Selection

West Bromwich Albion went into Saturday’s Championship clash with Millwall at The Hawthorns looking to extend new head coach Slaven Bilic’s 100% record to two matches and really give us some momentum in the early stages of the 2019/20 campaign.

With none of our deadline day signings making the starting XI for the game, it gained a pretty strange reaction on social media amongst the fans, and whilst plenty sensibly thought it was good management to let them settle in first with a bit more training under their belts, there was certainly plenty of disappointment at not seeing any of the newbies feature on the substitutes bench as a minimum.

Ultimately, fans can really only argue that Charlie Austin as a substitute option may have swung the game our way.

I think it was the right decision, the chances of any one of them having a telling impact on the match given they won’t yet 100% know the rest of the team, or our preferred tactics, was unlikely and given we opened the season with victory, the old adage is you don’t change a winning team unless you have to.

Our newbies need to earn their place first, not expect to have one.
