Simon Cox spared our blushes tonight with a late injury-time goal that salvaged a point against QPR, but did little to suggest that this West Brom side are ready for the Premiership.

Considering that QPR were the ones supposedly all at sea, following the suspension of their manager Jim Magilton, they found themselves 2-0 up after the hour mark.

Albion looked the more distracted as passes continually failed to find their intended targets and attempts on goal were carelessly lashed into the stands, on more than one occasion. Chris Brunt seems to fancy himself as some kind of wonder goal merchant but his sort of wasteful, speculative shot taking does nothing to help the team at all.

All it took from QPR was dogged defending and a hunger to chase every loose ball all the way to the touchline. Olsson, in one of his worst performances this season, was out-muscled all over the park and even managed to head into his own net when under pressure at a QPR corner.

This was soon followed by more calamitous defending from a QPR free kick, the ball spilling from Kiely’s hands leaving Kaspars Gorkss with a simple nod in.

Jerome Thomas pulled one back after Chris Wood had been brought on, to replace the ineffective Luke Moore. Cox grabbed the leveller with very nearly the last kick of the game.

Overall, Thomas stood out as one of the few Albion players that had the creativity to unlock a very stubborn QPR defence. He looked like a player that could adapt to Premiership football. He looked like a player alone.
