Over the weekend reports surfaced which suggested West Bromwich Albion had a strong interest in signing Southampton striker Charlie Austin.
Report Claims West Brom Have Joined The Race For £8m Rated Premier League Man
There wasn’t much real detail of our interest, it was simply speculated that we’d be willing to pay £8million for the 29-year-old despite the fact he had a woeful year in 2018/19 and only found the back of the net three times across the season as he fell out of favour under their new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
A fit and in form Charlie Austin speaks for himself though, but I’m not sure with our financial state of play whether we’d gamble £8million on him, but if we could get back to his best he would go some way in replacing the goal threat we have now lost with Dwight Gayle departing.
With ongoing doubts about the future of Jay Rodriguez that doesn’t help things either, but given JRod’s form at The Hawthorns, plenty of West Brom fans seem to think we may be able to have the same effect on his former colleague.
Oo Charlie Austin would be nice #wba

Gayle wants a 3 year deal on £55k per week. Wont settle for less. Austin might….

His current wages at Southampton are higher than the £55k per week we said we could no longer pay for Gayle so likely to rule us out

I’d take Charlie Austin for £8m, Rodriguez was heavily injury prone before we signed him and now he barely gets injured https://t.co/ZcTWNc6895
