Steve Clarke has warned that Markus Rosenberg may not be fit enough for when the season opens, after having had a seven week break prior to signing for the club.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Clarke said Rosenberg trained with the team for the first time yesterday, but that he was quite a way off fitness wise, so the aim is obviously to get him fit, but there’s no great rush to get him fit for Liverpool.

‘He joins us after a seven week break, which is not ideal, so his energy levels are not fantastic at the moment, but he’s excited about the challenge and all the players we’re brought in will take a little bit of time to adjust. Markus will take a bit of time physically to catch up, we’ll work him as hard as we feel necessary, but if he’s not ready then, he’ll be ready when he is.’

I can’t see us pushing him so hard that he could be anything more than a bench player come the opener, pushing him too hard – although no doubt he has been working privately – would just give rise to a risk of injury which everybody would rather avoid.
