Steve Clarke has said he asked whether Youssouf Mulumbu was fine before he made his final sub against Chelsea, and he said he was…5 minutes later he was crippled by cramp!

Speaking to wba.co.uk, Clarke explained.

‘You saw towards the end, it was getting more difficult for us, Mulumbu had seized up with cramp, so we were down to ten men but we defended for our lives. I’d just asked, 5 minutes earlier, if he was okay, he gave me the thumbs up. I won’t be taking to much notice of him in the future!’

Thankfully, as Clarke adds though.

‘We got away with it.’

Clarke also says he said to the players before the game that our good start was now over, and he asked whether we continue with our form and build on it to really show we deserve to be where we are in the league.

As you can imagine, he was delighted with the answer the players gave at the final whistle.
