Steve Clarke has said he was impressed with the team’s determination in the friendly against Malmo, although he admitted it was a tough match and we didn’t really get into it.

Speaking to wba.co.uk it was all about the work ethic for the new coach.

‘I was really pleased with everybody’s application. You couldn’t question it. We were playing against a team that is in the middle of their season so they were much sharper from the start. But as the game went on, I thought we competed well physically and a big plus was the three outfield boys who played 90 minutes. The objective is to work on our fitness.’

Clarke also had praise for new loan signing El Ghanassy.

‘It was just a little cameo from Yassine tonight. He did a couple of good things and a couple that weren’t so good. He’s one for the future who we need to nurture and try to develop.’
