Steve Clarke has said the next 9 days will be key for Chris Brunt if he hopes to be in contention for the league kick off against Liverpool.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Clarke said Brunt needed to get some good training under his belt following a niggly calf injury that has kept him out of 4 pre season games on the trot, but did add he was hopeful that he would return to training with the group this week.

‘Chris has still got two weeks to get ready. Hopefully he will join in training at some stage this week.’

Clarke continued to add that Brunt picked up the injury whilst jogging as he tried to prepare himself for pre season training, but unfortunately he didn’t spend long enough in recovery so it reoccurred again.

This time they want to make sure they don’t make it worse by rushing him back, and ultimately if that means scrubbing the Liverpool game, so be it.

‘Rather than rush him this time, we’ve decided to take the safety first option. If that means waiting another three or four days for him, that’s what we’ll do.’
