Midfielder and skipper Chris Brunt has secured his long term future at West Bromwich Albion by penning a new and improved three year deal today.

Earlier in the summer the club activated the 12 month extension clause they had on him and since then discussions have been taking place about a new deal keeping him with his until the summer of 2017.

Head coach Alan Irvine said of the news to wba.co.uk.

‘I’m delighted we have extended Chris’ contract by a further two years. He’s our captain, has great quality and experience and is clearly a very important player for us. Chris is an influential figure both on and off the pitch. He has the respect of all the players and staff and is a top class professional.’

Having moved to the club back in August 2007, he is now our second longest serving player and having recovered from his groin operation, his next competitive appearance for us will be his 250th across all competitions.

The 29 year old is also our second leading Premier League goalscorer with a total of 20 to his name so far.
