Chris Brunt pulled a pair of boots on for the first time since New Year’s Day on Wednesday, and he’s hoping to work his way back into training by the end of the week.

Speaking to wba.co.uk as Brunt returns from his fractured ankle, he’s pleased that he’s slightly ahead of schedule but he knows he faces a battle to get back in the team.

‘I had my boots back on for the first time the other day, I got to kick a few balls – nothing major though, but it was just nice to get my boots back on. Everything has gone well so far, I need to do a bit of fitness work before I can get back into training and then I’ll need a bit of time before I’m ready for a game.’

Once the hard work of getting fit is over with, Brunt also knows that he’ll have a game of it to get his starting berth back.

‘The time has gone quite quickly and the bonus is I haven’t missed a lot of games, if we keep playing like we did against Wolves I’ll have a job on my hands getting back in the team, it was such a good performance, I definitely don’t expect to walk straight back in – no way!’
