Chris Brunt was delighted to see Sunday’s yellow card amnesty after living life on the edge in the last few games.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Brunt admitted that he knew over the last few games that one more booking would see him pick up an automatic suspension as he sat on the edge with 9 yellows, and he thinks that’s why Hodgson substituted him against Sunderland just so he had a bit of protection.

Following the amnesty, a 10th booking now would only receive a polite letter from the FA.

‘The head coach mentioned it to me a couple of times, I think he toyed with the idea of leaving me out which I’d have been disappointed with.’

For the type of player he is Brunt doesn’t believe that 9 yellows so far is too bad a tally, but he knows he’d have been gutted had he missed two matches through suspension – especially at this stage of the season and given our increasing form.
