“Bought Really Well” – Pundit Has Positive Promotion Words For West Brom As He Reflects On Deadline Day Business

|

After a disappointing and worrying summer, West Bromwich Albion fans were certainly lifted by the arrival of Croatian head coach Slaven Bilic, and as deadline day neared in the transfer business, our new man at the helm did manage to make nine new captures – and we saw four on deadline day itself.

Having opened the campaign with all three points against Nottingham Forest, there was a sense of frustration at the weekend as Millwall hit back late on to take a point, but there’s certainly still plenty of reasons to be positive.

Former player and now pundit Noel Whelan believes that with Bilic in charge, we have to be considered as a serious contender for automatic promotion given the way we eventually strengthened our options across the pitch.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan explained.

“They’ve been busy and they’ve bought really well. Their signings in this window have turned them from maybes to very strong contenders for automatic promotion. Bilic has made some very good signings there, some new faces through the door.”

It does, of course, depend on how quickly people settle in and find their best form, and there is obviously a big expectation on the shoulders of Charlie Austin to make up for the loss of goals from Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle, but we should certainly be in the mix following last years’ disappointment.
