Bilic Relishing The “Pressure” As West Brom Take Another Three Points – “We Were Ready For That”

|

West Bromwich Albion went into the October international break in fine form, sitting pretty at the top of the table with goal difference our friend and we were looking to consolidate that position as Championship action returned this Saturday and we made the trip to the Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough.

Although the hosts had more chances on target, we utterly dominated the game and chances overall and fresh from signing his new contract extension, Hal Robson-Kanu was celebrating in the 82nd minute as he opened the scoring, and ultimately, returned the win and all three points for our efforts.

The victory keeps us at the top of the table and we’ve opened up a small two point gap on second placed Leeds United – but Nottingham Forest are still to play.

Speaking to the BBC following the game, manager Slaven Bilic said of our efforts across the 90 minutes.

“It is pressure up there. Of course, it is a positive pressure. The more you win the closer you will be to the top of the table and that adds to the pressure. Middlesbrough are not confident and what they need is a couple of wins. They are fighting hard and they gave us a hard game. If they continue then they will be out of trouble very soon and I have no doubt they will do it. Make no mistake, we knew what kind of game we expected and it was the one we didn’t want. We were ready for that. They defended in numbers but with more quality and quantity of attacks, then sooner or later you will get good opportunities. That is exactly what happened.”
