West Brom have confirmed that the club have today rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for striker Saido Berahino.

Chairman Jeremy Peace released a statement via where he restated that we had no intention of selling the player and presumably certainly not at the price offered.

‘We have no interest in selling Saido which is what I have told Daniel Levy. I know we are living in an age where no club can say ‘never` about the possibility of selling a player. However, the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda.’

Peace went on to say that we are planning on moving ‘forward’ with Berahino at the club this season and he remains central to our plans, whilst work continues to strengthen the group further with new signings before the closure of the transfer window in September.

‘We are going forward with Saido very much in our plans and still striving to add players to improve the balance of our squad.’

At least we are passed the endless speculation phase now and we know a firm offer has come in, certainly wouldn’t expect this to be the end of the deal now as you’d imagine this was just the opening salvo from Spurs.

  • With respect, that wording leaves the door firmly open. “No club can say never” and “not on our agenda”. If spurs offer enough he will be sold, that statement is classic chairman speak for “We just want a bit more money”
