Striker Saido Berahino has apologised to the fans and the club for his deadline day outburst on twitter where he said effectively he would go on strike.

Everybody knows the history with Tottenham Hotspur’s late deadline day repeat bids that weren’t acceptable to the club, so we don’t have to overly go through history here – but in the build up to the Crystal Palace game this weekend, the Birmingham Mail have the striker quoted about that part of his life, and he admitted he had plenty of regrets about his own actions.

‘It is something I look back on and I really regret. I should never have said that. I am human like you know. I make mistakes and I hold my hands up and I say it was a mistake from me. I apologise to all the fans out there that have always supported me and also the club that has always believed in me.’

With the private jet thumbs up episode following it, the 22 year old went on to say that all he could do moving forward was look to make up for those errors and learn from them.

‘I have missed a lot of football. I am just trying to get myself back into match fitness and sharper again like I was last season. My focus is mainly on getting back to what I was last season and finishing really on a high.’

Despite his lack of game time, Berahino remains our joint top scorer but with a barren run now meaning it’s been a while since he added to his six, he was confident that would turn.

‘They are bound to go in sooner rather than later. It is all about getting yourself into good positions and not trying to think too much about scoring, and are you going to miss or not. I am patient with it. I know if I get myself in a good position the goals will come. So I just stay patient and work hard for the team and try and push on.’
