With Ishmael Miller and Kevin Phillips both sidelined with injuries Roman Bednar was handed his full debut by West Brom manager Tony Mowbray on Wednesday night, and he didn’t let him down as he scored twice to help West Brom to a 2-1 win over Plymouth.

As he told Sky Sports Mowbray was more than pleased with Bednar, on a season long loan from Hearts, and praised his patience since joining: “Roman has had to be patient but has taken the opportunity and got two goals tonight.

“That’s what he needed to do, and I have watched him in training and he proved it again tonight. He is a clinical finisher.

The win consolidated West Brom’s second place in the Championship table, and also closed the gap on current leaders Watford. Bednar’s two goals should have done enough to keep him in the starting line-up this weekend.
