West Bromwich Albion have confirmed their fixtures leading up to their re-introduction to the Barclays Premier League.

On 16th July the Baggies take on newly promoted Bundelsiga side Borussia Moenchengladbach and this is followed on 19 July with a fixture against FC Cologne who have also just gained promotion to Germany’s top division.

On 22 July a Baggies squad will travel to Shrewsbury and the following night will see an alternate squad take on Cheltenham.

Championship team Ipswich Town are the opponents on 26 July and Northampton Town play host on 29 July.

West Brom travel to Hereford United on 1 August and then meet Black Country rivals Walsall on 5 August for their last game on the road.

The only pre season game to be held at the Hawthorns sees La Liga top scorers Real Mallorca visit on Saturday 9 August.

In a special ‘friendly’ organised at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough stadium for 10 July the Baggies first XI will take on the Baggies reserve team squad. No doubt an exercise to show off the new home and away kit but also a great chance to cheer on both teams and maybe see a few new faces. Aggborough friendly details

  • I worry about the intensity of some of the games and whether it will really prepare us for the challenge ahead.

  • There’s a few big names there and the Bundesliga clashes will be critical to make sure you’ve got the strength to cope next season. Cologne are a good strong outfit!

  • The German games come at the very beginning of pre season so I don’t necessarily think that it will tell us much. It will be a case of getting the players back into the swing of things and maybe introducing some new faces for a short bonding session.

  • The biggest test will come on August 16th. Pre season friendlies are all well and good but you rarely get to see the team that starts the season play together.
